They fell like giants,

one by one.

The air quivered,

held their shape

in loving memory.

As a child far away

I was not there,

to see the spaces.

Time trampled on,

the pillars endured

Eternal guardians

of past and present.

The empty spaces

imperceptible.

Their shape intact,

Vibrant in memory.

Time caught up, and

time ran out.

Their strength declined.

In quick succession,

when one fell, the others

followed, one by one.

Stay yet a while,

my heart did cry.

But their time had passed,

their strength was spent.

Reluctantly, I sped them on,

rest, your work is done,

and they fell,

one by one.

But, OH how bare

the landscape now!

No wall to lean on,

No pillars at my back.

The glow they left behind,

illuminates the pillars,

dancing, just out of reach, showing me the way.
